Rules to implement SB15-197
Hello DNA 30 members, The Department of Regulatory Agencies and State Board of Nursing will be writing the rules to implement SB15-197 this summer during an "emergency rule making process". This is an expedited rule making process due to the statute being implemented on September 1 2015.
They (DORA and the BON) have scheduled stakeholder meetings and the Colorado Nurses Association leadership and the Governmental Affairs and Public Policy committee and legal counsel will be attending the meetings and providing written and verbal input. The actual rule making hearing is scheduled for July 21st 2015. The State Board of Nursing has a website which I recommend you locate and visit for more details. The rules will be in place by September 1 when the statute goes into effect.
We (CNA leadership) believe that their will be a transition plan for those who are in the middle of obtaining their prescriptive authority. We also believe the legislative intent of SB15-197 is to make it less arduous to earn prescriptive authority in Colorado and will be encouraging DORA and the BON to have rules that are fair, understandable and easy for the BON to implement. If you are not a DNA 30 member, I highly recommend that you take a few minutes to join the Colorado Nurses Association and DNA 30 today. Your membership dues and contributions to the legal defense fund help support robust communication between advanced practice registered nurses in Colorado with prescriptive authority and the State Board of Nursing in a direct and professional manner.
Thank you for reading this long post Respectfully, Mary Ciambelli, Ph.D., PMHCNS-BC, RXN President Colorado Nurses Association firstname.lastname@example.org
